REA: The Symbol of Fertility

In Greek mythology, REA is the daughter of Uranus and Gaia. On Cronus’ side she determined the flow of things (Rea = one that flows) and designated movement and succession in the kingdom of Cronus.

Later she became the goddess of fertility as she sired the first Olympian gods: Hestia, Demeter, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. She made a pact with her younger son Zeus to overthrow Cornus at which point Zeus cut Cronus’ stomach open to free his siblings that Cronus had swallowed out of fear of having the same fate as his father Uranus.
